HEALTHY LESSONS - Fourth graders from Fulton Independent and Fulton County joined together to take part in a Baptist Health School Wellness Initiative Wellness Tour recently. Hosted by Carr Elementary School, the event focused on healthy choices and behaviors. Presentations using video, skits games and dance focused on good health and risk reduction, importance of physical activity, good nutrition, anti-bullying, internet safety, oral health and avoidance of risky behaviors.
According to their website, the Baptist Health School Wellness Initiative provides healthy lifestyle education to schools and residents throughout Western Kentucky’s 21-couty Delta Region. The initiative is funded by of grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Rural Health Policy. It it administered through Baptist Health Madisonville located in Hopkins County.
The goal of the initiative is to enhance the culture of wellness in service area schools by involving school staff, students, parents, and community organizations. The 20 counties within the service area include Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd, Trigg, Union and Webster.
