READING NIGHT - Christi Cavness, a member of the FIS PTO and mother of two Carr Elementary students (Charlie, 2nd grade, and Piper, kindergarten), was the guest reader during the January Family Reading Night at Carr Elementary School recently. The students and family members attending enjoyed hearing Cavness read Ezra Jack Keats' "The Snowy Day" before making homemade ice cream in plastic baggies. The students learned that if you put the ingredients in one plastic baggie and then place it inside another baggie that contains ice and ice cream salt, tasty frosty ice cream will appear if the baggies are shaken long enough. Some of the parents and grandparents in attendance assisted with the ice cream making. The next Family Reading Night is slated for 6 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 26, in the Carr Library. The event is a prelude to "Read the Most, Coast to Coast" challenge, a national Accelerated Reading challenge, on Friday, February 27. Carr students will have the opportunity to read Accelerated Reading books and take as many quizzes as they can that day. This will be the second Accelerated Reading event Carr has hosted this school year.
