New mascot

NEW MASCOT INTRODUCED - Fulton Independent School is excited to introduce its new school mascot to the community.  The 9-week old Old English Bulldog has taken up residence in the city, and was formally introduced to a group of seniors and school staff on Tuesday, June 23, in the high school commons.

The personable pup will become a part of the school, participating in pep rallies and games, in the daily life of Carr and FHS in reading groups, and in social interactions with students who might benefit from the research-proven calming effect of canine interaction.

It is the district’s intentions to have her be a regular part of the school culture, to grow with the students and be a source of inspiration, enthusiasm, and unity for the community and the school.

Dr. Harry Ward, a Fulton veterinarian, is helping as sponsor for the pup, providing necessary care to keep her healthy for hopefully a long life.  Jennifer Caldwell, a Carr Elementary teacher, and her family are providing a home for her. Smith Construction was the benefactor of the dog to the district. The district website will contain pictures and updates on the activity of our mascot as part of the life of our schools.

The official Fulton City Bulldog needs a name, and the district wants to involve the community in that process.  The seniors and staff selected four names from which to choose, and students and community members are encouraged to cast their votes for the favorite.  Voting ends on Sunday, July 5.

Persons may vote on the district website at www.fultonind.kyschools.us, mail email their votes to principal R.B. Mays at ronald.mays@fultonind.kyschools.us, or deliver them personally to the Board of Education office on 302 West State Line Road.

The names from which to choose are:

Athena - the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in angient Greek religion and mythology

Beda – means warrior woman, or battle maiden

B.G. – a shortened version of bulldog

Classy – derived from our theme that everything about FC is going to be First Class.
