HANDS-ON LEARNING - Cyndi Brown's first graders at Carr Elementary School had a lesson in partial darkness last week that helped turn on their lights of learning. Using flashlights, the students paired up and visited various centers set up throughout the classroom. At each center was an object. Using their flashlight, the first graders were charged to determine if the object was transparent, translucent or opaque. The classroom lights were dimmed in an effort to help the students come to the results of their experiments more easily. Some of the objects included foil wrap, plastic wrap, sheets of acetate, and colored drinking cups.
