Outside the cage learning

UNUSUAL VISITORS - Jeff Armstrong, a naturalist with Animal Tales, visited Carr Elementary last week with some interesting creatures. Armstrong's program was entitled Animal Avengers and featured a Burmese python, chinchilla, red kangaroo, Von der Deckens hornbill bird, and an African crested porcupine. Not only did those in attendance get to see the animals up close, Armstrong also told the audience a lot about the creatures. Each class at Carr researched one of the animals and completed an informative display about them. The second grade classes even created Burmese pythons out of paper mache. The event was sponsored by Fulton Independent's Title I parent involvement group and the Family Connection. According to their website, Animal Tales is an educational program company that brings the live animals directly to a site. The goal of the company is to not just lecture about animals, but tries to facilitate the learning experience by getting the audience involved. More photos from the program may be found by clicking on the Photo Galleries link on the main page of this website.
