SUPERINTENDENT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT - Superintendent Tamara Smith officially announced her retirement to the Fulton Independent Board of Trustees during the March meeting Tuesday evening. Smith, who has been the FIS leader for almost six years, let faculty and staff members know the news Monday afternoon prior to her public announcement. In an email, Smith stated she wanted everyone involved with the district to know the news before they read it or heard it elsewhere.
“It is both exhilarating and with trepidation that I am announcing my retirement,” Smith stated in the email. “I want to have time to travel and spend some time with my family while I still have the health to do so. I wanted to thank you all for all the hard work and let you know these have been the best six years of my career. I have never seen a group of teachers and staff who work with a passion and have so much compassion for children. There are so many things going right in this PROFICIENT District, and I hope you are making it a goal to stay at that level. I know that as long as you keep students in mind on every decision you make, you will have chosen the right path. There are so many things that I can say about how wonderful everyone has been to me, but the list would be too long to hold your interest. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.”
A search for a new superintendent for Fulton Independent will begin soon.
