Red Ribbon Week will be marked next week at Carr Elementary School. Each fall schools all across America celebrate Red Ribbon Week to educate children about the harmful effects of drugs and to show them the benefits of a drug free lifestyle.
The inspiration for this special occasion was the 1985 murder of Enrique Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Special Agent, on assignment investigating drug trafficking in Mexico.
According to Gwen Jenkins, Carr's counselor, there are various activities planned for the week. These include:
Monday - Wear something “red” day. There will be a guest speaker in open assembly.
Tuesday - Twin Day. You and a friend dress alike to “reflect” your good decision to remain drug free.
Wednesday - Put A Cap On It. Students may wear baseball caps with favorite logo. Other styles of hats may be worn. Please no large or distracting hats.
Thursday - Wacky Hair /Wacky Socks Day
Friday -Show Your School Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear Fulton logo or school colors.
"We have a fun week of activities planned," Jenkins said. "Please encourage your child to participate."
