The goal for the first Family Math Night, held on December 20 at Carr Elementary, was to engage parents/guardians, and students in meaningful math experiences and problem-solving activities that help support students' math learning. According to Lisa Davison, the event's main planner and a teacher at Carr, It was an incredible success.
"Our special guest star was Santa," Davison said. "The students had a marvelous time at each station and were challenged to enhance their math skills."
The Carr teacher was very appreciative of her peers who rallied with her to not only help with the expenses of the evening but also helped run the activities. She was also grateful for the parents and guardians who brought the students to the Family Math Night to participate and help make it a success. Edie Rodgers, a first grader at Carr, and Sam Gibbs, a sixth grader at Carr, won the drawings for the event door prizes - a remote controlled car and a set of headphones.
"If you were unable to attend our first Family Math night, don’t fret," Davison said. "Our next Family Math Night is tentatively slated to be held at 6 p.m. March 11 in the cafeteria. I will keep you informed about the event as the time draws near."
