Mindy Rose, Fulton High School Counselor, and Lori Mitchum, Murray State University Director of Financial Aid, teamed up again this year to offer assistance completing the FAFSA to FHS seniors and their parents. Eighty-eight percent of the senior class completed their FAFSA on January 10 and at a second session on January 22.
Several parents of students and former FHS graduates came in to complete theirs as well. Ten percent of FHS Seniors intend to enlist in the military this year.
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and it determines the type and amount of aid a student may be eligible to receive. This includes grants and student loans. Completing the FAFSA is the most important step in applying for financial aid. It is important to get the FAFSA completed in the month of January.
Students eligible for state grant money are awarded this on a first-come, first-serve basis and these funds seem to be running out earlier every year.
