SLIME TIME - At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, Principal Sondra Gibbs and Librarian Katie Parr challenged the students at Carr Elementary School to reach a large Accelerated Reading goal. The students were asked to successfully complete 5,000 AR tests. If they met this goal, Gibbs and Parr agreed to be slimed during an AR celebration near the end of the school year. When this 5,000 mark was reached with about a month left in the school year, 21st Century Community Learning Centers Director Kim Jobe was asked to join in on the event. The students were challenged to successfully read books and complete 250 more AR tests. Less than two days after the challenge extended, the students had passed the 5,250 mark. With more than 5,400 tests successfully taken, Gibbs, Parr and Jobe were slimed during an AR Celebration on Tuesday, May 6, with much cheering from the Carr student body. The students created postes and made up cheers for the event. A Slime Spirit Stick was given out to the fourth grade class who cheered the most. The staff members have all summer to come up with a different challenge next year. For more photos from the event, click on the Photo Galleries link on the Carr website.
