Introductory event

CAMPUS VISIT - Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and their families had the opportunity to visit with faculty and staff members at Fulton Middle School recently. The event was held to help the upcoming sixth and seventh graders become more familiar with the building and their classrooms.

This spring, a decision was made by the FIS officials to change the middle school concept to include sixth, seventh and eighth graders. This meant that two groups of students will move from Carr Elementary to FHS in August to begin the 2014-2015 school year.

According to a letter sent home to parents and guardians, the reasons for the creation of a middle school containing sixth, seventh and eighth grade students were four-fold:

Promote curriculum alignment and rigourous instruction due to the structure of Kentucky Core Academic Standards: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

Raise student achievement on state assessments including KPREP and Explore.

Provide the opportunity for students and teachers to form connections during the key adolescent developmental period of middle school.

Allow for more opportunities for student to participate in extracurricular events including clubs and sports.

During the transitition event, parents and students  had the chance to meet teachers, review the student handbook, tour the school and receive information concerning schedules, Individual Learning Plans, and Infinite Campus and Student Portals.
