Carr Elementary's annual Family Fun Day was held in and around First Baptist Church, First Christian Church and First United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 26.
Parents and students enjoyed visiting with Carr Elementary School faculty and staff members, church volunteers and regional agency representatives. Games were set up on the FUMC lawn while a cupcake walk was held in the church's basement. New Life Worship Center member Melissa Goodman made balloon animals and hats for students. Roller skating, popcorn, face painting and air hockey were in high demand inside the FBC family center. First Christian Church cooked and served a hot dog lunch in its backyard.
The event, usually held two Saturdays prior to the start of school, is in its fourth year. Family Fun Day is coordinated by The Family Connection, Fulton Independent's family resource/youth services center. It is made possible by donations of school supplies, food and time provided by area churches (in addition to those already mentioned, other sponsors were Parkway Church of Christ, Faith Fellowship Community Church and St. Edwards Catholic Church). Fulton's Walmart donated the hot dogs and buns, Frito-Lay donated chips, and Fulton's Knights of Columbus made a cash donation for school supplies. Hornbeak Funeral Home loaned its large awning for shade.
The first day of school for Fulton Independent students is Monday, August 4.
